An extraordinarily important exhibition that sees a series of events within it. The inauguration will see the signing of an important thirty-year agreement between the Bishops' Museum and Dr. Sergio Fontana, Administrator of Farmalabor and President of the Culture sector of Confindustria Bari-BAT, in the presence of the Regional Councilor for Tourism Loredana Capone. In the presence of numerous authorities, 35 unpublished masterpieces by the famous painter from Barletta, precursor of French Impressionism, will be on display until 1 May 2016. Central piece of extraordinary importance, the unpublished fan that De Nittis created and gave to his wife Léontine Gruvelle on 7 November 1883, a few months before his untimely death. The painter's private photographs and his wife's letters, also unpublished, are exceptionally unique. At the end, on April 24th, a dinner will be held in the rooms below the structure, where you will taste the dishes that the painter loved to cook on Saturdays and you will listen to masterpieces by Debussy and Chopin.

An unpublished drawing, purchased by the well-known Sotheby's Auction House, which reproduces the central key of the work The School of Athens, in the Apartments of the Segnatura. An unpublished drawing, different from the one preserved in the Ambrosiana in Milan, attributed to Raphael, which allows us to understand the original project of the great author: postponing the two figures of the philosophers and the sculptures behind them. The drawing was part of an immense correspondence that was lost in the early seventeenth century, partly reacquired by Cassiano Dal Pozzo. An extraordinary exhibition opportunity in the Music Hall of Palazzo Fracchiolla, enriched by a documentary.

Founded by Commander Domenico Fracchiolla in 1864, the Banca Principe di Napoli was the first banking and mutual aid institution to be established in Canosa in the last twenty years of the nineteenth century. Rich landowners, noble families and the emerging upper middle class turned to this Institute to expand their properties and provide assistance to their workers. An example of banking modernity, which issued credit or debt securities of extraordinary artistic value. After the bankruptcy of the Fracchiolla family, the Bank was purchased by the Banco di Napoli, becoming an integral part of it. The exhibition displays credit titles, stamps and ancient documents of this Institution.

Interactive artistic panels

In the heart of the historic village of Canosa, OmniArte creates artistic paneling, art installations and educational paneling. The reason is linked to the redevelopment of this thousand-year-old neighborhood. The works will be progressively placed in various areas of the Castello village, assisted by numerous local artists, so as to create a real art circuit, the care and management of which is up to the residents, so as to foster in them a sense of renewed and rediscovered correct management of spaces and "public affairs".

Precious liturgical missal, of manufacture attributed to the Abbey of Cluny, dated to the second half of the 14th century. Pontifical parchment of Paschal II

It is a notarial document, drawn up by the Lateran Papal Chancellery, created in 1101 and equipped with a bronze papal seal and the Pontiff's signature. The notarial deed refers to the titling of the Basilica of San Sabino, desired by Pasquale II, after having venerated the Holy relics. The Pope withdrew from Melfi with a long entourage and his objective was to close the ancient controversy between Bari and Canosa, who wanted them to be enemies due to the dispute over the remains of the Saint.

Unpublished material from the tomb of Prince Marco Boemondo d'Altavilla

This is a series of objects that belonged to the Prince of Antioch and Lord of Taranto, Marco Boemondo d'Altavilla. Son of Robert Guiscard and brother of Ruggiero Borsa, due to an unfortunate paternal will, he extended his dominions to the East, participating in the First Crusade, of which he was a victorious hero. Following a particular belief for San Sabino, he was buried outside the Royal Norman Palatine Chapel of Canosa, inside a splendid marble mausoleum with rare bronze doors. The objects refer to donations and elements of looting.

PONTIFICAL LITURGICAL GLOVES

The pontifical gloves preserved in the Royal Treasury of the Cathedral of San Sabino and today exhibited at the Bishops' Museum, from recent Oxford studies. They are among the oldest early medieval fabrics in southern Europe, together with a monastic cloak, preserved in Lucera. They were certainly imperial gifts due to the symbol of the globe with a cross above, present on the neck of the glove itself.

IVORY CROSS

The ivory cross exhibited at the Bishops' Museum is universally recognized by the European academic community as the fourth early medieval cross in the Mediterranean. It was created by an Arab-Norman-Sicilian workshop in the first decade of the 11th century, shortly after the conclusion of the First Crusade. It was a gift from the Normans of Puglia to Ursone, the last Bishop of Canosa or, as almost certainly, to the first urban Provost, named Petrus. It soon became a liturgical object for pilgrims along the Via Francigena.
